Town tours

Dear Guests,

Wertheim, the romantic and medieval town on the Main and Tauber looks forward to welcoming you. Where the traditional and the modern merge, a cultural and culinary diversity and Franconian hospitality attract visitors.

Wertheim Castle (12th century), one of the largest stone castle ruins in southern Germany, looks out imposingly over the historic and picturesque old town with its narrow alleyways and wonderful half-timbered houses.

There is a lot for visitors to discover during one of the many and diverse town tours: The "Spitzer Turm", the historic market square with its typically Franconian charm, the former court ("Hofhaltung") of the princely Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg family, today the seat of the municipal administration, the collegiate church, the Angels' Fountain or the "Grafschaftsmuseum", with collections of national importance. The pictures by the famous North German painter, Otto Modersohn, deserve special mention. The world of glass, from the luxury glass of ancient times to industrial glass, is presented to you in the only glass museum in Baden-Württemberg. Regular glass-blowing demonstrations and the famous Christmas exhibition in the Advent period attract an increasing number of visitors every year.

Near to the historic old town, there is the "Schlösschen im Hofgarten", built in the rococo style and set in a wonderful park. Today, it houses high-calibre art collections and foundations of international stature, such as "Porcelaine de Paris", painters of the 19th century from the Rhine-Main region and paintings and watercolours by the Berlin Secession.

Let yourself be inspired by wine and chocolate, a heavenly delight, a wine tasting in historic vaulted cellars or by our Wertheim gourmet tour.

Wertheim takes time for you.
