Kreuzwertheim

Markt Kreuzwertheim, in Bavaria, in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart, is situated in the Main Valley, on the edge of the Spessart, opposite the town of Wertheim in Baden-Württemberg. The district area of Kreuzwertheim covers 20.4 square kilometres and incorporates the villages of Röttbach, Unterwittbach and Wiebelbach. Around 3,800 people live here.

The town of Wertheim was once founded on the current district area of Kreuzwertheim. Only as a result of the reorganisation of Europe by Napoleon in 1806 was the town divided into two parts, present-day Wertheim and Kreuzwertheim. The Main formed the boundary.

Kreuzwertheim castle is the seat of the princely family zu Löwenstein – Wertheim-Freudenberg. The Spessart brewery and the beer mug museum are well worth a visit.
